Every believer will one day stand before God and give a personal account of their life. Romans 14 reminds us that no one lives or dies to themselves. Whether we eat or abstain, whether we treat a day as ordinary or sacred, the question is whether Christ is at the center of it. God has established three levels of authority in a believer's life: the eternal authority of Scripture, the external authority of governing and spiritual structures, and the internal authority of the conscience. The conscience is a gift, but it must be shaped by the Word of God to function rightly. Because Jesus conquered death and is seated at the right hand of the Father, every day belongs to Him, including our last. Whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's.
