Romans 15:7-13: 5 Day Devotional

Day 1: Welcomed As You Are
Devotional

There is a moment most of us know well. It is the feeling of not being quite ready, not good enough, not cleaned up enough, not far enough along. We tell ourselves we will come to God once we have figured a few things out first, but that is not how Jesus works. He did not wait for you to reach some higher version of yourself before He extended grace. He came to you in the middle of your mess, your failure, and your wandering. He welcomed you exactly as you were. Paul makes this beautifully clear in Romans: Christ died for the ungodly--not the almost-good-enough, not the people who were close--the ungodly. That includes every single one of us. And because Christ welcomed us that way, we are called to welcome others the same way. The church is not a finish line for people who have already won. It is a family that begins with Jesus and grows together from there. No one earns their place at the table. It is given freely, by grace, for the glory of God. If you have been waiting until you feel worthy enough to come to God, today is your invitation to stop waiting. He is already reaching toward you.

Bible Verse
"For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly." - Romans 5:6 (English Standard Version (ESV))

Reflection Question
In what area of your life are you still trying to earn your place before fully trusting God with it?

Sermon Quote
"Christ died for me while I was still a sinner. And God reached out to me and He called me to be with him, to be with Him in His kingdom. He did not wait for me to climb some moral ladder and reach some golden step somewhere."

Prayer
Lord, thank You for welcoming me before I had anything to offer. Help me to rest in Your grace today and extend that same grace to the people around me. Amen.

Day 2: One Gospel, One Family
Devotional
It can be easy to assume that God's plan for the world started small and expanded over time, as if reaching all nations was something He figured out along the way. But Scripture tells a very different story. All the way back in Genesis, God promised Abraham that through Him all the families of the earth would be blessed. That was not a footnote. It was the plan from the very beginning. The Gospel reaching people of every background, every culture, and every nation is not a surprise. It is the fulfillment of a promise thousands of years in the making. Paul drives this home in Romans 15 by stacking quote after quote from the Old Testament, all pointing to the same truth: One Messiah, one Gospel, one family of God made up of people from every corner of the earth. This matters for how we see the people around us. The person who looks different from you, thinks differently from you, or comes from a completely different background is someone Jesus died for. The same Gospel that reached you is the Gospel meant for them. We are not separate stories. We are one story, held together by one Savior.

Bible Verse

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek." - Romans 1:16 (English Standard Version (ESV))

Reflection Question
How does knowing that God’s plan to reach all people was never an afterthought change the way you see those who are different from you?

Sermon Quote

"The Gospel of Jesus Christ, the story of salvation, the story of our fall, sin, redemption and the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the same gospel story for everybody, everywhere, all the time."

Prayer
Father, thank You for a Gospel that crosses every boundary and reaches every person. Open my eyes to see others the way You see them, and give me a heart that reflects Your welcome. Amen.

Day 3: The Only Hope That Holds
Devotional

We live in a world that is constantly selling hope. Hope in the right leader, the right movement, the right circumstances finally falling into place. But if you have lived long enough, you have noticed something. That kind of hope always comes with conditions attached. It is always an "if, then" promise. And it always eventually disappoints. The hope of the Gospel is built on something entirely different. It does not rise and fall with elections, economies, or circumstances; it is rooted in a living God who has already acted decisively in history through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus said it plainly: He is the way, the truth, and the life--not one option among many--the only hope that truly holds is found in Him. This does not mean life will always feel hopeful. There are seasons when anxiety is loud and joy feels far away. But the fact of Christ’s victory does not change with your feelings. His resurrection happened. His promises stand. And nothing in this world can undo what He has already done. You do not have to manufacture hope today. You simply have to return to the One in whom all real hope lives.

Bible Verse
"Jesus said to Him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’" - John 14:6 (English Standard Version (ESV))

Reflection Question
Where are you currently placing your hope, and how would your daily life look different if Jesus were truly your only source of it?

Sermon Quote
"The hope that this world promises is always conditional. It’s if...then: if you join us and if we get rid of enough of people, who disagree with us, then maybe we can bring about the utopia we want to bring about."

Prayer
Jesus, forgive me for the times I have looked for hope in things that cannot hold. Anchor my heart in You today, and remind me that Your victory is already secure. Amen.

Day 4: Joy, Peace, and the God Who Gives Them
Devotional

Joy, peace, and hope are three things every person on earth is searching for. We look for them in relationships, in success, in comfort, and in control. And yet, so often, they remain just out of reach. Paul points us to something striking in Romans 15. He calls God the God of hope, and He prays that God would fill His people with joy and peace through the power of the Holy Spirit. Notice what he does not say. He does not say joy and peace come from favorable circumstances. He says they come from God Himself, through belief. This reframes everything. Joy is not a mood that depends on your day going well. Peace is not the absence of difficulty. Hope is not wishful thinking. They are gifts that flow from a relationship with the living God, available even in the hardest seasons of life. Without God, joy becomes empty pleasure, peace becomes numbness, and hope becomes presumption. But for those who are in Christ, every truth about God becomes a source of strength. His faithfulness, His love, His power, all of it feeds your joy and steadies your peace. You do not have to chase these things today. Ask the God who gives them freely.

Bible Verse
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope." - Romans 15:13 (English Standard Version (ESV))

Reflection Question
What would it look like practically to draw your joy and peace from God rather than from your circumstances this week?

Sermon Quote
"Peace without God is stupefication. Joy without God is madness. And hope without God is presumption."

Prayer
God of hope, fill me today with the joy and peace that only You can give. Where I have been looking in the wrong places, redirect my heart back to You. Amen.

Day 5: Everything Will Be Made Right
Devotional

There are moments in life when the weight of everything feels like too much. Grief, confusion, injustice, and pain have a way of making the promises of God feel distant. We believe them in our heads, but our hearts struggle to feel them. Here is the encouragement that carries us through those moments. This is not the end of the story. For everyone who is in Christ, there is a day coming when everything that causes pain, confusion, and sorrow will be burned away by the holiness of God. Not suppressed. Not managed. Completely gone. And what will remain is the God of hope Himself, in all His fullness, forever. That future is not a vague wish. It is a certainty secured by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Because He rose, death does not have the final word. Because He lives, the story does not end in darkness. Every tear, every broken thing, every unanswered question will one day give way to joy and peace that is full, unceasing, and eternal. You are not just surviving until then. You are walking toward it, held by the same God who has promised it. Belief in Jesus makes all the difference, today and forever.

Bible Verse
"Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God." - Romans 15:7 (English Standard Version (ESV))

Reflection Question
How does the certainty of a future where everything is made right by God change the way you face your hardest struggles today?

Sermon Quote
"When we pass from this life, everything that hinders joy, peace and hope will all burn away. And all that will be left is the God of hope. And all of it will be full and all of it will be unceasingly perfect and eternal because of Jesus Christ."

Prayer
Lord, when this life feels heavy, remind me that You are making all things new. Help me to live today with my eyes fixed on the hope that is already secured in Jesus. Amen.
