Romans 13:1-2

Romans 13 is one of the most misunderstood passages in Scripture. It is often reduced to a simple command to obey the government, but Paul is making a much deeper point. God created governing authority for a specific purpose: to establish order, promote good, and punish evil. That means government is accountable to God, not the other way around. When the state oversteps its God-given role and begins to replace God as the definer of truth and morality, Christians are not called to silent compliance. Submission to authority is the starting point, not the whole story. God has placed His people in every sphere of life, from the home to the workplace to the public square, to be salt and light. Christians are not passive observers. They are His representatives wherever He has placed them.
