Romans 12:17-21b
When someone wrongs us, every instinct pushes us toward payback. But Romans 12:17-21 calls believers to something radically different, not out of weakness, but out of trust in a God whose justice is perfect and complete. God is not indifferent to evil. He is perfectly righteous, and He has promised that vengeance belongs to Him. Holding onto revenge does not keep our hearts neutral. It pulls us toward bitterness, malice, and hatred over time. Because God has already overcome evil with good through Jesus Christ, and because He will complete that work when Christ returns, we are free from the exhausting cycle of personal revenge. We do not overcome evil by matching it. We overcome evil with good, because that is exactly what God has done and will do.
